Plane rides and art forms. In the 1970s, photorealism became really popular and the Kansas University Art Museum is showcasing it today. Setting apart pigment from celluloid is something that you need to master.
Considered a working medium, photographs are essential for the photorealistic painter. A photograph is used as a guide and the painter will replicate the image onto a canvass. With the works of 22 artists, a team of two friends, one is a leading aviation and aerospace attorney, created an exhibit. Most of the works presented a glimpse into everyday life.
Like always, one of the artists came with a horse painting. While the sister is riding a horse, two brothers, model planes in hand, stare closely at the camera. It was the idea of another artist to put a toy car by a toy helicopter and in line with the old toys theme, there was also a floating plane in a bathtub. There were a lot of artists and one had a plane on an aquarium floor.
When you look at the exhibited pieces from these artists, you will really admire how well they used their knowledge when it comes to painting techniques as they captured the essences of the photographs they were working with. One such technique used by some of the artists can be attributed to Renaissance artists, they used grids so that they can enlarge their sketches for murals.
One artist decided to create a likeness of an air borne fighter jet. What most of the artists did was utilize clear, precise lines and color and this is how they ended up with amazing paintings. There was one artist who made a tinted painting of an air ship and he was actually into antique photographs.
What could have been the reasons why artists sometimes choose to paint photographs? By using a picture as a guide, the artist loses any personal connection with the piece. Manipulating the material is what is left for the artist to do. It is necessary for photorealistic artists to proficiently depict the photograph hence the use of brushes and air guns.
Pure dexterity is what is being displayed in this show. The beauty of photorealism is its ability to showcase beauty in a clear and distinct form unlike most of the abstract paintings that we have today. Here, the Whitney Museum in New York made it possible for all of the followers of photorealism to unite under a show of 22 artists.
Now people will be familiar with the movement. These are expensive works for it takes much effort to accomplish them. Those who see these will be stricken with emotions. Careful determination led to these.
