Pastor John Parish's The Goshen Factor presents a fascinating example from biblical times to demonstrate the imminent arrival of the Last Days.

There is much speculation and doubt regarding end-of-the-world prophecies. A number of films, such as 2012, depict the end of the world as a fusion of massive floods, fires, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. Pastor John Parish's The Goshen Factor presents a fascinating example from biblical times to demonstrate the imminent arrival of the Last Days.

The premise of The Goshen Factor is the creation of an environment where God's covenant people are free of suffering and curses to the land. Pastor Parish points out that the earth has been afflicted, over the past decade, with a host of natural disasters that seemingly have no explanation. These natural disasters wreak havoc and destruction throughout the land, a sign of things to come. Whether through earthquakes, tsunamis, or floods, it is apparent that the world is changing. Global warming or not, states such as California have seen unprecedented heat waves during winter. Pastor Parish states, "There are prophetic signs in all these natural disasters, but the central message is that the Creator is the only one worthy of worship, not the creation."

For the Bible-reading audience, these natural catastrophes should be nothing new. In fact, Pastor Parish details the story of another global crisis, thousands of years ago, in Egypt. There we see the same sort of economic collapse and climate change that resulted in the destruction of all but one area of Egypt-the region called Goshen.

While all of Egypt suffered from famine, blight, and plague, God preserved Goshen and his covenant people, keeping them from harm. Pastor Parish tries to convey the message of God and bring Goshen to today's society. He states, "Through a vital relationship with Jesus, God has provided a spiritual and financial Goshen to bring relief from the horrendous peril of our time."

The righteous lifestyle of the people in Goshen is required in order to avoid contemporary perils; however, the civilized people of this generation, similar to the Egyptians of that time, may not be so willing to let go of their pride.

When the end arrives, advanced civilization, nor technological innovations, nor inventions will be able to reverse the destructive trend that has afflicted the world. Ultimately, every individual's focus should be on the biblical record of Goshen, in an attempt to bring the values of Goshen into today's world-for the promised protection from all manner of natural destruction.
