Many folks love getting a massage but very few people feel comfortable offering a massage to someone else. Many people are usually afraid of hurting someone else. Also, it's possible to feel afraid that the massage may not be good enough. We get afraid that other people won't appreciate what we are trying to do. The good news is that it is possible to learn how to give a fantastic massage every time you want to do so. Here is how you can give a fantastic back massage whenever you wish to.
To start off, you need to make sure that the person is comfortable while lying down. The surface on which they lie needs to be firm but soft. You don't need a table but try having them lie down on the bed. If they are lying on the floor, put down a couple of soft blankets, towels or a mat so that the person will feel better. If the massage-ee prefers to keep his or her shirt on, make sure that the shirt is made of a softer material to avoid accidental chafing and friction build up.
Begin with the basic rub. Use the whole flat side of both hands to rub from the lower back area toward the neck (do this slowly). Put some pressure into this rub but dont start with the full on massage yet. Begin at the base of the back and then move your hands in an upward motion, along both sides of the spine toward the neck then move across the shoulders and work your way back down the back. Make the loops smaller as you do this step again so that the entire back can get loosened up.
Using the heels of your hands offers you a great way to offer fantastic and pointed pressure. Move the heels of your palms in small circles starting in the middle of the base of the back and then working out toward the sides, upwards and then back toward the backbone until you've done this to all the areas of the back.
Try to sit at the side of whoever is obtaining the massage. Then, put one hand on top of the other and dig into the back a little bit using your fingers. start out with the spinal column and thrust steadily away from the spine, across your back and then very lightly rub your hands back toward the spinal column. Do this again as you massage up the back and then do it again on the person's other side.
Massage the spinal column. Begin at the base of the spine and work up each of the sausage-y muscles on each side of the backbone with a couple of fingers or your thumbs. Rub each node at least five times each so that you can work up some friction. Massage your way all the way up one side of the spine and then repeat the same thing on the other side of the spine.
Something that you must remember as you use every one of these techniques is that it is good to re-relax the person between each part of the massage that you give. This means that after using the heels of your hands for specific applied pressure, you should go back to the rub you used at the beginning for several minutes.
