If you are looking for ways to keep your whole coffee beans fresh, you need to know about several factors that affect its freshness. First is air and the second is moisture. In order to get the best flavours out of your coffee, it must be consumed right away. This means that it should immediately be grinded and then brewed to get the best tasting coffee. But unfortunately, you cannot really brew all the coffee beans that you purchase since you cannot consume it all at once.

The truth is, coffee beans are best during the first 24 to 72 hours after they have been roasted. After that particular time frame has passed, these beans begin to turn stale. It takes about an entire week before the original flavours dissipate. The recommended usage for freshly roasted coffee beans is that you buy only what you can consume in a week's time or up to ten days.

It is best to keep your whole coffee beans in the bag it was packed in when the package is lined with heat sealing film or foil lining. But the best way to store coffee beans is within an air-tight canister. It is best to keep the air exposure to a minimal in order to lock in the freshness of the coffee.

Aside from keeping the coffee beans inside a canister, make sure to place it in an area that is not exposed to sunlight in order to keep it at room temperature. Also, make sure that the area is dry and void of moisture. Coffee beans stored in this manner can last up to a month after they have been roasted. Note that it is to your benefit to know when the coffee was roasted though most coffee beans are roasted prior to selling.

There are two other methods that may want to consider when keeping your coffee beans fresh. First is a vacuum pack while the other is having it freeze or refrigerated.

Vacuum Pack

There are certain coffee packages that come in an air tight seal which means that there is no oxygen and carbon dioxide inside. You can also do this for your coffee but it does require having the suction device that will remove the air out.

Refrigerated

More often than not, refrigerating coffee is not recommended since extreme temperatures can really affect the flavour. This particular technique is only good for one time only. What this means is that once you have taken it out of its cold storage, it should not be stored there again. The coffee needs to be consumed. Returning the coffee beans into your fridge after you have consumed a part of it will cause depletion of the flavours since moisture breaks out which can be absorbed by each bean.

There are a lot of different ways on how you can store whole coffee beans in order to prolong its freshness. If you are a heavy coffee drinker, it is best to invest on equipment that can help to prolong your coffee's lifespan.
